January in Italy

More photos. When it's just Susan and I it's easy enough to avoid shopping, but once the chick count hits 4, my attempts become worthless.

This supposedly being the off season for tourism, Venice was packed. It may be that christmas and New Years is high season; but the day crowds are unbearable. While I'd like to deal with the italian language, all shopkeepers know enough english to sell a pair of shoes or a roll of film.

Day 3 was disappointing as the ugly side of the city maintained for tourism showed through.

The views are still amazing.

This time I left him some change, so he was happy to pose for the camera.

St. Marco, from a different angle.

Railto bridge, at night.

On top of the Rialto Bridge, Venice (Murano island in particular) is famous for it's glasswork, plenty of overpriced ashtrays can be found in this area.

A skyline, from the St. Marco area.

Susan and I ended the night with a gondolah ride. They try to raise the prices on you at night, don't let them. You can't leave Venice without seeing the less traveled canals.
