January in Italy

The next morning quite a few streets were completely flooded; like this one right next to our hotel on the Grand Canal. We had to find an alternate route, most locals wear knee high boots and just walk right through it. In some places they have temporary sidewalks made of wooden planks for tourists; which by the way there are tons of... This place is so surreal it's like one giant ride at Disney World.

Most stores have water barriers built into there doors which seem to do very little, so they make a habit of keeping everything off the floor and just letting the water flow right in.

You don't really need a destination, anywhere you go is amazing.

Venice has it's drunks.

The gondolears of Venice have unionized, charging between 60 and 100 Euro for a 50 minute trip. They also have a GQ style calendar available at most souvenier shops.

Venices transit system. The ACTV will take you anywhere along the grand canal.

Rialto bridge, one of only 3 bridges that cross the Grand Canal.

Basilica di St. Marco.

Some of St Marco's interior - covered in elaborate mosaic.

From the top, Piazza St. Marco.

In the Piazza St. Marco, a few local merchants are making a killing selling bags of bird seed, while the democracy of competition keeps each bag at a single Euro. We sprung the Euro, and lured in the pigeons. I walked away with only one moist dropping of pigeon crap on my shoulder.
