January in Italy

We took a train in search of a supposed internet cafe to find a hostel / cheap hotel in Venice. These double decker trains looked brand new and are triple capacity, we were usually the only ones on them.

According to an advertisement on the free map at Milans' tourist center, this was an internet cafe. It was under construction... At this time we noticed that the map also showed it's prices in Lire; currency that hasn't been used since the introduction of the Euro over a year ago.

We found this 60 Euro a night hotel right on the Grande Canal in Venezia.

View from our window. We had looked at a different room first when I remembered the advice of Rick Steves, Hotels will always try to sell you the crappiest room first, ask to see another and it's guaranteed to be better. Our first room overlooked a back alley. Whealin' & Dealin', italian style.

The subpar resteraunt we ate at the first night was the best we'd find in Venice. The food here is awful.

That last one is of Venices' firehouse. It's all boats. Not a single road or car in the entire city. I was ready to move here after one night of walking around. Venice is so totally unique it's mind-boggling.
